Piazza Matteotti - Frazione Capronno
Site n. 36 - Angera Open Air Museum
The piazza, now surrounded by old buildings with backyards and farms, is at the centre of the outlying village of Capronno.
This locality may have been the site of a Roman farmhouse, as suggested by a number of interesting archaeological finds.
Several tombs and the remains of buildings in Castellaccio locality show that the area continued to be inhabited in the Lombard epoch. In the Early Medieval period Cabroy was the seat of a Corte Regia (Royal Court), recorded in the place-name used for a group of houses south of the village.
The locality still preserves its rural character, evident in the carefully restored old agricultural buildings, such as stables and barns.
